Thailand is strengthening oversight of digital platforms as regulators focus on fair competition, platform transparency, seller protection, and online fraud.

The move follows increased scrutiny by Thailand’s Trade Competition Commission (TCCT), including enforcement action involving Shopee, and signals closer supervision of how major marketplaces operate.

What Regulators Are Watching

  • Algorithms & visibility: How platforms rank products, sellers, and advertisements.

  • Seller data: How platforms collect and use merchant and transaction data.

  • Fees & commercial terms: Greater scrutiny of commissions, advertising fees, promotions, and platform policies.

  • Fair competition: Whether platforms give preferential treatment to certain sellers, products, or services.

  • Product compliance: Stronger seller verification and removal of illegal or non-compliant products.

Thailand’s Electronic Transactions Development Agency (ETDA) is also increasing oversight of digital platforms, including social commerce, as selling through social media, livestreaming, and creators continues to grow.

What It Means for Sellers

Thailand is moving toward a more regulated digital-commerce environment. Legitimate sellers could benefit from greater platform transparency and protection, but they should also expect higher compliance, verification, and product-standard requirements.

For brands and professional sellers, compliance is increasingly becoming part of everyday e-commerce operations.
