The United States Trade Representative (USTR) included one shopping mall in Bangkok in its 2025 “Notorious Markets” report, which identifies places linked to large amounts of counterfeit or pirated goods.
The report listed 69 markets worldwide (37 online and 32 physical markets) across 19 countries.
Thailand had only one physical location on the list, a mall in central Bangkok (widely reported as MBK Center).
Thai authorities say they have increased enforcement against intellectual-property violations, working with police to raid shops and crack down on counterfeit products.
Mall operators have also terminated leases of vendors caught selling fake goods and closed several shops.
However, officials admit some sellers still try to avoid inspections, such as by using temporary stalls or other tactics. Authorities plan to continue stricter enforcement.
